As detailed by the existing conditions portion of the 2021-2026 CEDS, the NCW region has been more dependent on tourism activity than is the case statewide – especially with respect to lodging, dining, and retail purchases. Both nationally and regionally, these sectors were disproportionately and negatively affected by the pandemic and associated economic downturn – with lost revenue and, in many cases, business closures.
